Processing of micro parts

Which types of drill bits are commonly used in the processing of micro parts?

The commonly used drill bits for micro parts processing include center drills, standard twist drills, reaming drills, deep hole drills and countersunk drills.

Center drilling: Mainly used for hole positioning. Due to the relatively small diameter of the cutting part, a higher speed should be selected for center drilling.

Standard twist drill: The cutting part of a twist drill consists of two main cutting edges, two secondary cutting edges, one cross edge and two helical grooves. Due to the absence of fixtures to guide the drilling mold, the drilling of the machining center is affected by the asymmetry of the cutting forces on both edges, which easily leads to air venting during drilling. Therefore, when processing precision parts, the two cutting edges of the drill bit must have high grinding accuracy (the two inserts are of the same length, the apex Angle is symmetrical to the centerline of the drill bit, or the center is drilled first and then the drill bit is drilled).

Standard reamers: Standard reamers usually have 3 to 4 main cutting edges. The cutting components are made of high-speed steel or hard alloy. The structure includes straight handle, conical handle and sleeve type. In small-batch production, twist drills are often modified into standard reaming drills.

Deep hole drilling: It is used to process deep holes. During the processing, the heat dissipation is poor, chip removal is difficult, and the rigidity of the drill pipe is poor, which can easily damage the parts and cause the hole shaft to be skewed, thereby affecting the processing accuracy and productivity. Therefore, deep hole drilling is chosen.

Countersunk holes: Countersunk holes are mainly used for processing conical or flat-bottomed countersunk holes. The main problem with 锪 hole machining is the vibration marks on 锪 hole surface or cone. Therefore, during the shaving drill processing, special attention should be paid to the correct selection of tool parameters and cutting parameters.

When processing precision parts, it is very important to choose the appropriate drill bit for correct processing; otherwise, the parts will be damaged. To ensure processing quality, it is necessary to regularly check the lifespan of the drill bits that need to be replaced to achieve efficient processing quality.
